BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The quiet town of Milford is mourning the loss of a 12-year-old boy who died suddenly Wednesday night.
Aaron Zenus becomes the first child in Massachusetts to die from a flu-related illness this year.
The boy had his flu shots, according to his mother, but still got sick—and just days later, he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at Milford Regional Medical Center.
The death has stunned the tight-knit community, including Town Selectman Michael Walsh.
"The Milford community is hurting," he told WBZ-TV. "I have two grandchildren myself, and to hear that, to worry about that, it's very sad, very very sad."
Zenus was a seventh-grader at Stacy Middle School, where grief counselors will be present all day to help young students cope and understand the tragedy.
