BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced her candidacy for president at an event in Lawrence, Mass. Saturday.

“I stand here today to declare that I am a candidate for president of the United States of America,” Warren said to the crowd at the event.

On a stage, Warren promised to fight corruption and elevate the working class.

“The man in the White House is not the cause of what is broken, he is just the latest and most extreme symptom of what’s gone wrong in America. A product of a rigged system that props up the rich and powerful, and kicks dirt on everyone else,” Warren said. “Once he’s gone, we can’t pretend like none of this ever happened. It won’t be enough to just undo the terrible acts of this administration. We can’t afford just to tinker around the edges — a tax credit here, a regulation there — our fight is for big structural change.”

Among the speakers at the announcement was Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey.

“No one knows how to get under Donald Trump’s skin better than Elizabeth Warren,” Markey said. “Donald Trump may have his tweets, but Elizabeth Warren has her peeps.”

Rep. Joe Kennedy III introduced Warren before she took the stage.

"I am here with you all today because there is one candidate in this race, there is one U.S. senator, there is one proud daughter of Oklahoma and adopted daughter of our Commonwealth who has dedicated her entire life to this battle, to our cause," Kennedy said. "For decades before anyone in power noticed something was wrong, there was Elizabeth."
