1 Killed In Tractor-Trailer Crash on Mass Pike

BLANDFORD, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police say that one person is dead and 4 people were injured after tractor-trailer rollover crash on the Mass Pike early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. on the eastbound portion of the Pike (I-90) in Blandford, when the tandem tractor-trailer lost control and crashed into another tractor-trailer, box truck, and a pickup truck according to State Police.

Five people were taken to Baystate Hospital to be evaluated and treated for minor injuries, police said.

Authorities shut down the roadway for a period of time prompting detours and delays. All lanes have since been reopened.

State Police had issued a 40 mph speed reduction from the New York state line to the 57-mile marker in Wilbraham at the time of the crash The speed reduction also bans the use of tandem or propane trucks because snowy weather conditions.

The identity of the crash victim was not immediately known.
