MassDOT Worker Hit By Drunk Driver In Stolen Uber

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) - An early morning crash in Revere sent a MassDOT worker to the hospital.

The DOT employee was stopped at the scene of an accident along Route 1 north bound, when he was struck by a drunk driver operating a stolen Uber vehicle. Matthew Ricco Tyre, 29, is charged with carjacking, operating under the influence of drugs, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, negligent operation, and other offenses.

Tyre stole the car from his Uber driver earlier in the night. Following the crash, Tyre attempted to flee but was apprehended by a state trooper responding to the scene of the earlier accident. He will be arraigned in Chelsea District Court today.

The MassDOT employee, a 52-year-old Revere man, was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
