Officials: Methuen Shooting Suspect In Custody, Charged With Murder

METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon said the victim in Friday's early morning shooting in Methuen has died and that a suspect is now in custody.

Remy Salazar, of Lawrence, Mass., is charged with murder after Methuen Police responded to the shooting that occurred around 3 a.m. in the area of Broadway. Authorities found Kelvin Frias, also of Lawrence, with a gunshot wound to his head.

Frias died at a hospital Saturday morning. According to officials, Salazar was tracked to a residence in Nashua, N.H.

"I commend the excellent teamwork among the Mass State Police assets and the Methuen and Nashua, N.H. police that resulted in the suspect's apprehension without further incident thus eliminating the threat to the public's safety," Solomon said in a statement.
