Mass Trooper Involved Shooting in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Massachusetts State Police trooper was involved in an an early morning shooting on Colonel Bell Drive Brockton Saturday.

State Police Spokesman Dave Procopio says in a statement, "Preliminary information suggests that just prior to 9 a.m., during a confrontation with a male suspect, the Trooper discharged his weapon. The male suffered a lower body gunshot injury that is believed to be non-life threatening."

The wounded suspect was taken to an area hospital. State Police say the trooper is also being evaluated.

The facts and circumstance of what led to the shooting are part of an active investigation.

Procopio says the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office will oversee the investigation and will determine whether the use of deadly force was justified.
