ANDOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are investigating an armed robbery of a CVS in Andover Tuesday, and asking the public to help them ID the suspect.

The Andover Police Department said it happened at 7:30 a.m. at the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street.

They said the suspect showed a black and silver handgun and demanded prescription drugs from the pharmacy. He ran out the back door with the drugs in a black trash bag.

Authorities have described him as a white male with a black hoodie and blue jeans, about six feet tall. He was wearing a face mask.

The store was closed for a period of time while police investigated, but was re-opened shortly after 10 a.m.

Following the robbery, nearby Doherty Middle School was put in shelter in place. All students are in the building and safe, Andover Public Schools said.

Police said there doesn't appear to be any danger to the public.
