Twin Brayton Point Cooling Towers Implode As Locals Look On

SOMERSET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — In a matter of seconds, the twin Brayton Point cooling towers imploded in a planned demolition of the former coal-fired power plant, sending up huge plumes of smoke and delighting residents who gathered to watch.

Stephen Collins, executive vice president of Commercial Development Co., has said he does not anticipate dust from the implosion to drift into surrounding neighborhoods, and that the bottoms of each tower were wrapped in chain-link fence to keep debris from flying too far.

The property is set to become a multi-use site mostly dedicated to supporting offshore wind farms.
