Bunker Hill Community College Gets A Gentler Mascot

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The mascot at Bunker Hill Community College just got a makeover.

You could call it college bulldog mascot version 2.0 where the new look meant to send a new message..

Their new mascot is still a bulldog, but a kinder, gentle one.

School officials tell WBZ NewsRadio that the old mascot was just too aggressive looking.

“This bulldog feels more positive in energy than the mean look,” said Sercan Fenerci, Assistant Athletic Director at the college.

He says the mascot needed to better align with the colleges values and purpose.

So they ditch the scowl, sharp teeth and spiked collar.

“It has a different feeling for example it’s an energetic dog, a kind and loyal…those are the positives we were looking into instead a mean looking teeth showing bulldog” he said.

The school reached out to Phoenix Design, a national brand identity firm help them with the new re design.
