Man Steals Fuel Truck, Drives Around Worcester Airport

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Leominster man is under arrest after stealing a fuel truck and driving around on an airport taxiway Thursday

According to Massachusetts State Police, the security breach happened around 6:24 p.m. when the unidentified 31-year-old man gained access to secure parts of the airport.

When State Troopers eventually caught up to the man, they found him hiding inside a fuselage used by firefighters for training exercises.

They said that the man was speaking incoherently and had black tar smeared on his face.

State Police say there is no threat of terrorism.

The man is charged with trespassing, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, and malicious destruction of property.

Authorities are also recommending a mental health evaluation for the man.

In a statement, Massport said they reviewed their security procedures and protocols with the help of State Police.

"Security measures at Massport facilities are multi-layered and consistent with TSA regulations, and appropriately coordinated with other federal, state and local law enforcement partners," the statement read. "Safety and security is our top priority and we remain confident that the facility is safe."
