Police Cruiser Involved In Crash In Tewksbury

TEWSKBURY, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — A marked Tewksbury Police cruiser was involved in a head-on crash Tuesday morning.

According to the Office of Middlesex District Attorney Marion Ryan, the crash happened at 6:46 a.m on Route 133 near Cooney Road in Tewksbury.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the Tewksbury officer was driving eastbound on Route 133 when a van, travelling in the opposite direction, allegedly crossed into the officer’s lane of travel striking the police cruiser head-on officials said.

A photo shared by WBZ NewsRadio traffic reporter Kristen Eck, shows the cruiser in the center of the road and a white van into a utility pole with various debris scattered on the road.

Both drivers involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals where they are being treated for non-live threatning injuries.

The Tewksbury Police officer has not been identified.

The driver of the van, Jorge Joel Gomez Guzman, 21, of Lawrence, has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation and having an improperly registered vehicle.

Although Gomez Guzman is currently in the hospital, he has been placed in police custody. An arraignment has not been scheduled.

The crash is currently under investigation. Authorities said more charges are likely to be added.
