BOSTON ( WBZ NewsRadio) — In hopes to bring more mixed housing in the city, the Treadmark building has opened in Dorchester Friday.
The 83-unit mixed-income, mixed-use, transit-oriented development resides near Ashmont Square.
Mayor Marty Walsh says this six story housing is potentially the “best transit oriented development that [is] in the City of Boston” since it is near a bus, trolley, and train line.
A year ago, the original building and namesake—a tire company—was ruined by a six alarm fire.
“What they did is they doubled down and recommitted to building this project. Where, in other parts of the country, this building behind us would probably have sat vacant and empty. But they didn’t,” Mayor Walsh said, “they got on top of it and made sure they moved us forward.”
American Provisions, a Boston based grocery store, will be Treadmark’s anchor tenant.
