Nightside with Dan Rea - Rundown for November 18, 2019

Plastic Bag Ban Propaganda. The Massachusetts State Senate released a bill today sponsored by Senate President Karen Spilka (D-Ashland) that would implement a statewide ban on all carry-out plastic bags at retail stores. Ostensibly the bill is to protect the environment, but the bill requires retailers to charge at least 10 cents for a paper bag five cents of which goes back to the city or town. Is this really just a way to fill up local government coffers?

Presidential Pardons. President Trump is being criticized by democratic opponents for pardoning members of the U.S. military. The White House says those pardoned had received draconian sentences that were out of line with the crimes they committed or had taken actions to defend themselves on the battlefield and were charged with war crimes. Specifically involved were Army First Lt. Lorance who had already served six years, Army Maj. Golsteyn who was facing trial for killing an alleged Taliban bombmaker. and Navy SEAL Gallagher, who was found not guilty of war crimes but had posed for a photo with a dead member of the Taliban. Were these pardons out of line?

President Obama Says Knock Off the Crazy Stuff! Former President Obama is urging Democrats to move more to the center with their proposals on health care and inequality and warned that most voters aren’t the same as “left-leaning Twitter feeds” and “don’t want to see crazy stuff” from Democratic presidential candidates. Do you agree with him?
