BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Celtics star, and current Brooklyn Nets point guard, Kyrie Irving was booed at Wednesday’s game TD Garden despite not being there.

Irving was supposed to make his return to Boston with the Nets to play the Celtics. He had signed with the Nets as a free agent over the summer.

Irving didn’t come because of a sore shoulder, but the crowd of Boston fans heckled him anyway. This included a “Kyrie Sucks!” chant that was repeated several times throughout the game.

Irving responded to this in an Instagram story, where he called sports and entertainment “ignorant and obtrusive.”

“It’s one bight SHOW that means Very VERY little in the real world that most people live in because there are Actually things that matter going on within it,” Irving wrote in the post. “It’s a GAME, and it’s promoted as a Fandom experience for ticket buyers and viewers at home, while defacing who people truly are as PEOPLE.”
