SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Red Sox fans gathered at the MGM Casino Springfield on Friday and Saturday to meet players, snap photos, play games, and grab some autographs during the team's 6th annual Winter Weekend event.
The celebrations kicked off on the morning of Friday January 17 with some family-friendly activities at the MassMutual Center. On Friday evening, the Red Sox 2020 team was introduced to their fans before they sat down for a Town Hall style event, which is set to air at a later date.
On Saturday morning, families got to enjoy a breakfast with Red Sox mascots Wally and Tessie.
There was also a Family FunZone, a Social Media lounge, and a Season Ticket Holder lounge to enjoy. In a new event area known as Wally's World, attendants were invited to "test your fastball at the speed pitch, get your picture taken with the four World Series Trophies, giveaways, and more!"
Autograph and photo sessions continued throughout Saturday, with each fan getting one autograph and photo session with one or two of the attending players/alumni/coaches.
There were also several panel discussions over the two-day event, including ones entitled "A Kid's Press Conference", "A Reunion Of Champions," and "Schoolyard Games."
There were dozens of players and alumni in attendance, including Matt Barnes, J.D. Martinez, Jackie Bradley Jr., Wade Boggs, and David Ortiz.
