Red Sox Finalize Deal To Trade Mookie Betts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Less than two weeks before Red Sox spring training is set to kick off, the team's blockbuster trade deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers is finally set in stone.

After the Minnesota Twins backed out of the initial agreement, Mookie Betts and David Price are now headed to L.A. in exchange for outfielder Alex Verdugo and prospects Jeter Downs and Connor Wong, plus $48 million to cover half of Price's remaining contract.

The Red Sox pitchers and catchers are heading to spring training in Fort Myers, Fla. on Tuesday February 11. The team is still in need of a manager, but WBZ NewsRadio's Sport Reporter Adam Kaufman says bench coach Ron Roenicke is expected to get the gig.

The Celtics edged out the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday with their 7th straight win. According to Kaufman, Celtics guard Marcus Smart may have saved the game.

In the final moments of the game Boston was up by three points, and Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a chance to tie it up. But with just six seconds left, Smart came up with a big steal, closing out the game with a 112-111 win for Boston.

The Bruins currently have the most point in the NHL with 80, and the Redwings have the least with 30, but Kaufman says "games aren't played on paper," proven by Boston's loss 3-1 in Detroit.

"The goalie seems to play well when we play him and he was feeling it tonight," said Bruins' Torey Krug, who scored the team's only goal for Boston on Sunday.
