Gayle King Responds To Snoop Dogg's Apology

Gayle King has accepted Snoop Dogg's apology.

On Friday (February 14), the CBS This Morning host issued a statement after Snoop apologized for his recent vitriolic Instagram video where he lashed out at Gayle for asking Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant's 2013 rape case.

“I accept the apology and understand the raw emotions caused by this tragic loss,” Gayle said in a statement to NBC News. “As a journalist, it is sometimes challenging to balance doing my job with the emotions and feelings during difficult times." She added, “I don’t always get it perfect but I’m constantly striving to do it with compassion and integrity.”

Gayle came under attack last week when a short clip, shared by CBS, began making its rounds on the Internet that showed her asking Kobe's longtime friend Lisa about his previous rape charge. Many were outraged not only by Gayle's line of questioning, but her timing, given that the interview came days after the death of the 41-year-old basketball player, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others, whose lives were claimed in a helicopter crash.

Snoop was one of the first to share his explicit thoughts on Gayle's interview, calling the esteemed journalist out of her name and even appearing to threaten her. Days later, Gayle's BFF Oprah Winfrey said on the Today show that Gayle had been receiving death threats "and has to now travel with security. CBS News President Susan Zirinsky also said in a statement, "We fully support Gayle King and her integrity as a journalist. We find the threats against her or any journalist doing their job reprehensible."

On Wednesday (February 12). Snoop issued Gayle a public apology, saying in a minute-long Instagram video, "Two wrongs don't make no right. When you're wrong, you gotta fix it. So with that being said: Gayle King I publicly tore you down by coming at you in a derogatory manner based off of emotions... me being angry at question that you asked."

"I overreacted," he added. "Should have handled it way different than that. I was raised way better than that. So I would like to apologize to you publicly for the language that I used and calling you out of your name and just being disrespectful. I didn't mean for it to be like that."

"I was just expressing myself for a friend that wasn't here to defend himself," Snoop explained. "A lot of people look up to me and they love me and they appreciate me, so I want to let them know that anytime your mess up, it's okay to fix it, it's okay to man up and say that you're wrong. I apologize. Hopefully we can sit down and talk privately. Have a good day."
