A Louisiana grandmother was arrested after she allegedly kidnapped her 12-year-old granddaughter from a hospital on Friday (February 14). Police said that 66-year-old Evelyn Miller walked into Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson and tried to leave with her granddaughter, Adreana.
When the hospital staff tried to stop Miller, she pulled out a gun, shoved a nurse to the ground, and left the facility.
Miller fled in a 2019 Toyota Sienna minivan and struck a security guard as she made her escape. Police recovered the minivan but did not locate Evelyn and Adreana.
They issued a warrant for Miller's arrest, charging her with aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of simple battery, simple kidnapping and violation of a firearm-free zone. They put out a state-wide child endangerment alert and began a massive search for the girl.
On Saturday, they located Evelyn and Adreana in a hotel about 70 miles north of New Orleans. Evelyn was taken into custody and is being extradited to Jefferson Parish. Police did not reveal why the young girl was in the hospital, or say why her grandmother kidnapped her.
