BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials with the Boston Marathon say they are “closely monitoring” the deadly coronavirus ahead the annual event this spring.
This comes after counterparts in Japan decided limit the field in Tokyo Marathon next month to elite athletes only because of the virus.
The death toll is currently above 2,000 people around the world.
Boston has not announced a similar decision, but the Boston Athletic Association did say in a statement they would “closely follow” updates from the CDC, the Public Health Department, and the World Health Organization.
The B.A.A said they “will adhere to any policies put forth by the federal government.”
The Boston Marathon will be held on April 20.
