New Poll Finds Support For Sanders And Warren Nearly Tied In Massachusetts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ahead of this Tuesday's primaries, a new poll shows Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are almost neck-and-neck in Massachusetts.

The poll by Suffolk University, The Boston Globe, and WBT-TV found 24 percent of respondents planned to vote for Sanders on Super Tuesday, while 22 percent were going for Warren.

Sanders made several stops across the Bay State ahead of the primary elections on Tuesday, March 3, including rallies in Springfield and on Boston Common.

Nearly 38 percent of the poll's participants were from the northeastern part of Massachusetts, 29 percent were located in the southeast or on the Cape, nearly 22 percent were from Worcester or Western Mass., and 12 percent were from the Suffolk region.

Massachusetts is one of 14 states that will hold its primary elections this Tuesday.

The poll respondents were split by party lines; 65 percent were registered Democrats, 35 percent were unenrolled or independent.

The poll also showed that if their first choice candidate doesn't win the primary, 77 percent of respondents plan to vote for whoever is the Democratic nominee.

Nearly 7 percent said they would pick a third party candidate, 6 percent were undecided, and nearly 8 percent said they would vote for President Trump.

Senator Sanders currently has 56 delegates, after he picked up 11 in South Carolina on Saturday. Following closely behind is Joe Biden with 48 delegates. Senator Warren has 8 delegates in total.

There's also a new poll by Emerson College. It suggests Joe Biden's win is South Carolina may not continue in Massachusetts.

"We had an early vote," Emerson College Director of Polling Spencer Kimball told WBZ NewsRadio. "So even though he will get some sort of bump out of South Carolina, it might be a bit subdued because of all the early voting."
