Watch: Massachusetts Youth Hockey Coach Appears To Attack Referee On Ice

KINGSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A video shared online appears to show a youth ice hockey coach in Kingston, Massachusetts brawling with a referee in the middle of a game.

The video caption says the fight happened on Saturday night at The Bog Ice Arena, adding "a ref was assaulted on the ice... this has to stop or youth hockey won't have any refs." The user also commented that "the coach came onto the ice and went after the ref, initially spitting in his face to start the physical altercation."

The user who posted the video says in her profile she is a "ref wife," and that the video was sent to her.

The video was later retweeted by the official Newton North Boys Hockey account, which called it "disappointing behavior at a youth hockey game in Kingston, MA (The Bog, Rink 2) at 630 tonight."

The retweet also gave the event some extra context. It said the referee had apparently kicked out a coach, who slammed the door to the rink and then approached the referee on the ice. It says the youth hockey referee then appears to push the coach, which Newton North Hockey said was "potentially in self-defense, then when he gets up this ensues."

Several twitter users posted a video of what happened in the minute leading up to the fight.

Hundreds of locals commented on the video, calling it "disturbing" and "disgraceful."
