Inmate At Middleton Jail Dies From COVID-19, Underlying Health Conditions

MIDDLETON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Essex County Sheriff has announced that an inmate at the Middleton House of Correction died from coronavirus Wednesday evening.

The 41-year-old male inmate, whose identity was not released, had also been suffering from other underlying health conditions.

He had been at the Middleton jail since February 18.

“My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family”, Sheriff Kevin Coppinger said in a statement. “This pandemic continues to wreak havoc bringing tremendous heartache to so many families in all walks of life. These are unprecedented times and we all must continue to work together to find a cure for this horrible illness.”

The Essex County Sheriff's Department said that 60 inmates at their facilities have tested positive for COVID-19 and 45 inmates have fully recovered.
