Universal Studios Orlando Plans To Reopen On June 5

On Thursday (May 21), Universal Orlando Chief Executive Officer John Sprouts submitted a proposal to reopen the Florida-based theme park to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the task force unanimously approved the plan for Universal Studios Orlando to reopen after two months of closure due to COVID-19.

Pending approval from Orange County Mayor Jerry Demmings and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, guests will be able to return to Universal Studios beginning on June 5—with enhanced safety measures instituted by the parks, of course. Universal Studios will reopen with limited capacity that will start to gradually increase as time goes on. Employees will also enforce a number of other health and safety rules for park attendance, including mandatory masks and temperature checks upon entry. Should any guest lose or forget their masks at home, Universal Studios will provide a replacement mask for free.

Universal Studios will also operate with paperless payments only via the UOR app during the initial stage of reopening. Ride lines will pivot to virtual queues via the app, as well, which allow for vastly reduced crowds waiting to board rides. Single rider lines will temporarily be shut down, too. Any ride that uses mist will temporarily forgo using it for the time being.

While Universal Studios has submitted a reopening proposal, it's neighbor Walt Disney World has yet to submit one of their own. Both parks have opened their respective shopping and entertainment complexes with enhance health and safety measures already.
