Liam Neeson’s mother, Katherine "Kitty" Neeson, has died. She was 94.
According to PEOPLE, the actor learned of his mother’s passing just one day shy of his 68th birthday (June 7). Per the outlet, Kitty’s died Saturday (June 6) in northern Ireland and her death was noted during the mass at All Saints Church in Ballymena. "Let us pray for the faithful departed. We pray for those that died recently… and Kitty Neeson. Her funeral arrangements will be later," Parish Priest Monsignor Paddy Delargy said during the service, which was live-streamed on the church’s Facebook due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Cllr Peter Johnston, the Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, also released a statement in light of Kitty’s death. "Very sorry to hear this news,” he said. “As Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, I will be raising this at full council on Tuesday where we will be holding a minute's silence. Rest in Peace, Kitty.”
Along with the Cold Pursuit performer, Kitty is survived by her husband, Bernard Neeson, and their children Elizabeth, Bernadette, and Rosaleen.
Liam’s loss comes after his nephew died in Janurary 2019 years after suffering a fatal fall and 11 years after his wife, Natasha Richardson, died in a skiing accident in Canada.
"I was told she was brain dead. And seeing this X-ray it was, like, 'Wow,'" he recalled in October 2018. "But obviously she was on life support and stuff. And I went in to her and told her I loved her. Said, 'Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You’ve banged your head. It’s – I don’t know if you can hear me, but that’s – this is what’s gone down. And we’re bringing ya back to New York. All your family and friends will come.' And that was more or less it."
