Gov. Baker Announces Program To Assist With Food Insecurity

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — During his update on COVID-19 in Massachusetts, Governor Charlie Baker announced applications are now being accepted under a new food grant.

"The program is open to organizations that are part of the Massachusetts local food system," Baker said from the Greater Boston Food Bank. "Including production, processing, distribution, and community-food organizations."

The state food security grant program includes 36-million dollars to assist places like the Greater Boston Food Bank that help feed those in need.

The goal is to make sure that families are fed during the pandemic and economic crisis. Other organizations, such as school meal programs, community gardens, and urban farms can apply.
