Man Accused Of Killing Former Neighbor in Braintree Arraigned Thursday

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A man has been accused of killing his former neighbor in Braintree.

Norfolk Assistant District Attorney Greg Connor said Robert Bonang showed up at Laurie Melchionda’s home on Howie Road wearing a fake delivery driver uniform. He held a box concealing a rifle.

A babysitter walking two children nearby said she saw Bonang frantically ringing Melchionda's doorbell, and then shooting at the victim.

Bonang was still in the yard when law enforcement arrived. Melchionda was taken to the hospital, where she died from her wounds.

Police found a .22 caliber gun, another rifle, a 24-round clip, and a police scanner at the scene.

A motive for the shooting has not been disclosed; however, Melchionda and Bonang were once neighbors.

Bonang was arraigned remotely on murder and firearms charges. He was ordered held without bail.
