Canton Man Fatally Struck In Quincy Crosswalk

QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a man was fatally struck in a crosswalk near the beach in Quincy on Saturday.

According to MSP, Troopers responded to Quincy Shore Drive at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, where DCR lifeguards and bystander nurses were administering emergency medical aid in an attempt to save the victim’s life.

A preliminary investigation found that a Mercedes-Benz, driven by a 75-year-old man from Newton, was traveling north on Quincy Shore Drive in the left lane when it struck a pedestrian, who was crossing Quincy Shore Drive in the crosswalk.

The victim, a 68-year-old Canton man, was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he later was pronounced deceased. His name is not being released at this time.

The operator of the Mercedes-Benz remained at the scene. No charges have been filed as of this time.

MSP said the investigation into the facts and circumstances of the crash remains ongoing, including an investigation into the crosswalk signals, however speed was determined not to be a factor in the crash.
