Miley Cyrus fans are putting a face-swapping spin on her new “Midnight Sky” video.
The 27-year-old pop star had the best reaction to discovering a bizarre fanmade version of her latest visual that showed her face being swapped out for godmother Dolly Parton. “When your godmother @dollyparton looks better in your own video than you do,” Cyrus tweeted along with a clip from the music video in which the country legend’s face is superimposed onto her goddaughter’s body.
The unbelievable edit, made using the Reface App, has since inspired Smilers to start “refacing” a series of clips from the “Midnight Sky” visual, replacing the Hannah Montana alum’s face with those of Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Joan Jett, Anitta, and Blackpink.
Speaking of “Midnight Sky,” Cyrus is expected to perform the song live for the first time at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 30). Her highly-anticipated VMAs showcase will be the fifth of her career, and her latest to follow last year’s emotionally-charged performance of her breakup track “Slide Away.”
Cyrus, who is nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Editing (“Mother’s Daughter”) at this year's event, joins previously-announced performers Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, BTS, Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Maluma, and CNCO.
