GoFundMe For Bicyclist Fatally Struck In Cambridge Reaches Goal In 24 Hours

CORRECTION 9/15 @ 12:00 p.m.: The originally-published story indicated that Darryl Willis’ family had carried out funeral proceedings. At that time, a funeral had not yet been held and this story has been updated to reflect that.

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A community is rallying around the family of a bicyclist who was struck and killed in Harvard Square last month, showing support with hundreds of online donations.

Cambridge City Councilor Marc McGovern asked his constituents to support the family of Daryl Willis through GoFundMe, following the tragedy. Within 24 hours, the GoFundMe page reached its $9,000 goal.

"It was like over three hundred separate donations - ten bucks, five bucks," McGovern said. He believes the donations were from all across the country. "People still want to help each other and people still want to do good things."

The fundraiser remains open for anyone who would like to contribute.
