Miley Cyrus conjured the legendary Stevie Nicks for an epic collaboration.
Late last night, Cyrus unveiled a new remix to her smash hit song “Midnight Sky,” an aptly-titled, rock-fueled jam titled “Edge of Midnight” that samples one of Nicks’ greatest hits. In her new team-up, the former Disney darling evokes the feral spirit of Nicks, whose iconic 1981 hit, “Edge of Seventeen,” meets Cyrus’ “Midnight Sky” halfway in a modern-day mashup.
“Edge of Midnight” fuses the timeless guitar riff from Nicks’ Bella Donna track and Cyrus’ original lyrics with added verses and harmonies from the two rockers for a rebel anthem.
“And thе days go by like a strand in the wind/ In the web that is my own, I begin again/ I sing to my friend, eh/ Nothing else mattered,” the 72-year-old opens the second verse, before joining Cyrus on the blended chorus.
Together, they sing, “Fire in my lungs, can't bite the devil on my tongue, oh no/ I don't need to be loved by you/ See my lips on her mouth, everybody's talkin' now, baby/ Ooh, baby, ooh, said, ooh/ Just like the white winged dove.”
“Stevie Nicks has always been my idol & an inspiration. It’s an honor to now call her my friend and collaborator,” the 27-year-old wrote on Instagram, to which the Fleetwood Mac icon responded, “Miley…Magical! Loved singing with her!”
“Edge of Midnight” is the latest offering to come from Cyrus’ new rock album, Plastic Hearts, which will serve as the singer’s seventh studio effort. The LP, due out on November 27, also features Cyrus’ cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” (Live from the iHeart Festival) as well as a cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie."
