Two Police Officers Shot On Braintree-Weymouth Line

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two police officers were shot on the Braintree-Weymouth line in the area of McCusker Drive while searching for a suspect.

The officers were taken to the hospital for surgery and are allegedly facing non-life threatening injuries. Neither officer was wearing a body camera during the incident.

Multiple shots were exchanged. The suspect was shot along with a police dog which was shot and killed.

The suspect fled into the woods and was arrested, the Braintree mayor’s office reported.

“Shots were fired and two officers were transported to the hospital,” the mayor’s office said. “The District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police will be taking over the investigation.”

Due to the on-going police presence, there are delays on the commuter rail and the Greenbush line train has been terminated at East Weymouth. Passengers will be detoured via bus to Quincy Center.

This investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released at this time.
