The remnants of what was once Hurricane Ida is expected to bring heavy rainfall and elevated wind to the Greater Boston Area Wednesday night into early Thursday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting 2.5” to 5” of rain for the Boston area, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 6-7.” A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday afternoon for much of Massachusetts.
The potential exists for rare high end urban and small stream flash flooding. Basement flooding and road washouts are a possibility.
While the axis of the heaviest rainfall remains uncertain, areas near and south of the Massachusetts turnpike appear to be at the greatest risk.
Areas along the South Coast, Cape and Islands could see a thunderstorm with damaging wind gusts that may spin up into a tornado later today into tonight, according to AccuWeather.
Tomorrow afternoon, expect a gusty breeze with clouds and, perhaps, a few breaks of sun later in the day. Flooding will continue in many areas.
