BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Switzerland's Marcel Hug finished just seconds shy of his own course record to win the Boston Marathon Men's Wheelchair Race for the fifth time Monday, but a missed turn cost Hug the $50,000 in prize money.

Hug missed the turn onto Hereford St. according to WBZ-TV, but still clinched the victory with a final time of 1:18:11, 7 seconds short of his record set in 2017. The so-called 'Silver Swiss Bullet' previously won the Men's Wheelchair title for four years straight, from 2015 to 2018.

Second place went to American Daniel Romanchuk, who won the title in 2019. Romanchuk also won the Chicago Marathon over the weekend. 10-time Boston winner Ernst Van Dyk of South Africa came in third.
