BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The winner of the 2021 Boston Marathon will be disqualified after a doping investigation, pending an appeal. Diana Kipyogei of Kenya won the Women's Division race in the 2021 Boston Marathon, which was held in October 2021.

Kipyogei finished the race with a time of 2:24:45. The Boston Athletic Association, which runs the race, said the disqualification is pending an appeal process. Kipyogei was investigated by the independent Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

The B.A.A says it will adjust the race rankings and prizes, "pending the sanctioning." The second-place finisher Edna Kiplagat, of Kenya, would move to first, with a time of 2:25:09.

In a statement, the organization said it "supports strict anti-doping measures to ensure fair competition and clean sport. "
