Chelmsford Fatal Crash Under Investigation By Massachusetts State Police

CHELMSFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – Members of the Massachusetts State Police are investigating a crash that left one person dead in Chelmsford Thursday.

At around 2:15 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a person hit by a tractor trailer on Route 3 northbound in Chelmsford. Chelmsford Fire and EMS were also sent to the area.

When crews arrived, they found a disabled 2014 Nissan Rogue in the breakdown lane and a tractor trailer stopped about 300 feet ahead. Crews also found a 77-year-old man suffering from serious injuries after being hit by the tractor trailer.

While crews determined the man was the driver of the Nissan, he was outside of the car at the time of the crash. He died on scene.

The exact cause and details surrounding the crash are still under investigation by multiple State Police units. During Thursday’s investigation the first and second lanes on Route 3 were closed for about three hours.
