BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - With a powerful weekend storm quickly approaching, Eversource is in full preparation mode. The energy company has been out prestaging crews in advance of heavy snowfall and high, potentially damaging winds. These crews have been placed ever so carefully, to ensure they can respond quickly and safely to any damages caused by the storm.

Chris McKinnon, a spokesperson for Eversource says they've brought in hundreds of additional crews from out of state to handle the weather.

The heavy snowfall is expected across the state with totals ranging anywhere from 4" to 24" and can bring down trees or tree limbs onto electric lines and equipment causing power outages. Eversource out with a reminder to always stay clear of downed wires and report them immediately to 9-1-1. Be sure to report any outage online at Eversource.com, or by calling 800-592-2000. Customers who signed up for the company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.

McKinnon also says customers should prepare for the weather by making sure they have an emergency storm kit. It should include essentials like flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable foods, and any other essentials needed such as medication. Another key reminder, make sure your cell phones and other devices are fully charged. He says it's a good idea to create an emergency plan with family members or neighbors, especially those who may be elderly and need assistance during the wintry weather.
