ATTLEBORO (WBZNewsRadio) - The owner of an Attleboro restaurant is going head to head with one of the biggest names in the Boston restaurant scene over it's signature dish: liege waffles.
Shane Matlock owns the Burgundian in Attleboro and filed the lawsuit in Massachusetts Superior Court accusing a Waltham-based food company, Eastern Standard Provisions, of making money off his creation.
Matlock said the Burgundian and Eastern Standard Provisions were in the process of forming a partnership and had signed a non-disclosure agreement, when Eastern Standard allegedly used his secret recipe to get on Oprah Winfrey's Favorite Things List, with no credit to the restaurant. He said Eastern Standard executives congratulated him by text message after Oprah chose his specialty waffles.
This isn't the first time Eastern Standard has made Oprah's list, in 2019 the company's pretzels earned a spot.
