BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – A church in Roxbury experienced some noticeable damage Friday from heavy winds that blew across the area.
The 22-foot-long steeple at the Church of Christ on Walnut Avenue was knocked down and the building has been deemed as structurally unsound.

“When the steeple comes down, you know, where its mounted, can cause a water problem and they sealed that up and we didn’t see any damage inside from it.”
Raleigh Gallington has been a member of this church for decades and considers it his home. While he is glad no one got hurt and there was no further damage to the building, Gallington is concerned that people won’t be able to come worship on Sunday.
“That’s going to be up to the inspector to let us know that it’s all clear for us to occupy the building for our worship services.”

If people are not allowed in the building, the church will hold a service via Zoom, which they have been doing for the past couple of years.
