WINCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – Between the fake spring and winter weather, local hardware store owners are getting dizzy trying to keep up with customer demands.

Temperature swings combined with supply chain problems have created some challenges for those running a hardware store. At Fells Hardware in Winchester there is a multitude of wares from rakes to snow shovels, but even that supply is looking slim.

“At times it’s definitely hectic,” said Owner Andrew Ryan said. “Especially since we’re still in the midst of COVID.”

He added that it is equally frustrating seeing his customers get frustrated because of a lack of supplies, but most of them understand supply chain issues. Of course it doesn’t help when the weather keeps switching back and forth.

“What’s funny about this particular season is the temperature change,” said Ryan. “One day it could be 70 degrees then it gets cold again. We get some snow, it melts, somewhat, and then it freezes again so you need more ice melt and then it just gets warm again so it goes away.”

Friday's snow storm comes just days after Boston recorded one of the warmest February days in history. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for all of southern New England except near the south coast where advisories are in effect. The heaviest snow will hit north of the Mass Pike and precipitation could change over to sleet and/or rain.
