DUXBURY (WBZNewsRadio) - Katie Mcllroy comes from a Police officer family and when she was just 7 years old she was diagnosed with cancer. To this day she remembers the community of support the department offered her and her family while she was sick.

"When I was sick I always had officers coming to visit and checking in on me. It was just great atmosphere and a whole family of law enforcement around me." She tells WBZ's Brooke McCarthy.

Fast forward 25 years and the Duxbury Police Officer is cancer free and planning to run the 2022 Boston Marathon for Cops for Kids with Cancer. The charity helps local families with groceries, supplies and transportation to and from the hospital.

This will be her first run in the Boston Marathon, and while she isn't an avid runner, she'll be giving her all on April 18th.
