NORWOOD (WBZNewsRadio) - A popular Norwood bagel shop could be on the verge of setting a world record, not for it's delicious breakfast fare but by it's sheer size.
SPoT! might just be the largest bagel shop in the world. Standing at a whopping 12,000 square feet, with 7,000 square feet of production space and 5,000 square feet or retail space, officials at the Guinness Book of World Records are investigating.
Owner, Perry Makarious says it wasn't his goal to create the largest bagel shop in the world, but now that's vying for one there is another title he's working towards; World's largest bagel.
"They do say size matters, bigger is better," he tells WBZ's Chris Fama, "There is a world record for the largest bagel, I think it's like a 600 pound bagel, we're gonna go after that record." He says the shop will aim to create a 1,000-pound bagel to break the books.
The restaurant opened October 2021 with hungry patrons lining up around the corner from it's location at 20 Broadway in Norwood, MA. Some waiting as much as 45 minutes.
“This place has the best bagel sandwiches I’ve had before,” one customer said. “I feel like even if they had ten people in there the line would be this long anyways.”
