BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - World Central Kitchen began serving hot meals within hours of the initial invasion of Ukraine and quickly set up operations at the eight border crossings with Poland.
Tim Kilcoyne, the Director of Chef Operations for World Central Kitchen, is in Lviv, Ukraine, where WCK has been working to feed people as the war rages on.
"Here it is business as usual and in a lot of cases there are air raid sirens go off a couple times per day. A lot of people go into the bomb shelters for safety," he said.
WCK is now distributing food and fresh meals across the region, partnering with restaurants there and feeding people in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia and Spain. In addition to partnering with restaurants, they have also partnered with local caterers and food trucks to get fresh food to people fleeing the country at border crossings, shelters, and other check points along the evacuation route.
