GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With beach season just around the corner, there's a lot of attention on a seaside spot in Gloucester. The latest issue of Travel + Leisure Magazine has named Good Harbor Beach among the top 25 in the country, calling it a "family-friendly spot with sugar-soft sand and relatively calm water."
For some Good Harbor regulars, the area's newfound fame is causing mixed feelings.
"I was like 'no! Don't announce it!'" said Betty Jean, who enjoys Good Harbor on walks year-round. "Too many people will come here!"
But Betty Jean certainly understands why the shoreline made the list. "It's just magnificent -- beautiful."
A professional coastal wildlife photographer from Sweden, Cattie Coyle captures the beauty of beaches for a living, and this particular beach is the reason she settled in Gloucester. "When I found Good Harbor, I was like, 'Why did I not live up here all this time?'"
So the new ranking isn't a surprise to her. "High tide, it's completely different. Low tide, you can walk out to Salt Island. There's just something about this vibe."
If you're looking to get a piece of that vibe, be aware at peak time only residents are admitted, so while Good Harbor Beach may be getting a touch of national fame, this treasure remains a local one.
