QUINCY (WBZNewsRadio) - A big fundraising event will take place this weekend in Quincy, with proceeds benefiting the annual Disabled Veterans Fishing Outing, held in July.

Harvey's Salt Water Fishing Club will hold the event Saturday, June 11, at the Town River Yacht Club at 60 Mound Street.

It's the first time the event has been held in two years, after the pandemic forced lockdowns in all veteran hospitals.

The event has been going strong for 63 years and gets veterans out of the hospital and on the water fishing. Up to around 200 Disabled Veterans from six veteran hospitals and two disabled veteran organizations will be a part of the event. They'll be guests aboard 20 lobster boats provided by local lobsterman.

"When you see those guys come off the boat and a couple of them have fish and the smiles." John Stewart, a volunteer with the event, told WBZ's Jim MacKay. "We just want to say thank you to all those vets out there and give them the opportunity to do what we do."
