WINTHROP, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Beach season is well underway, and Massachusetts residents are flocking to local shores — but who is responsible for keeping the beaches clean and ready for those beachgoers?

WBZ's James Rojas got the chance to ride-a-long with some of the state's unsung heroes making sure our beaches are pristine.

Tara Pszybysz is a motor equipment operator for DCR and uses a tractor that pills a rake machine that digs about an inch into the sand.

"It makes it look nicer instead of seeing all the foot prints all over the beach, it's nice and smooth. And it also, with the birds, it deters them from making their nests in the little divots." Pszybysz told WBZ's James Rojas
