Shih Tzu Named Jackson Pollack Creates Artwork For Alzheimer's Association

BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) -- A 3-year-old shih tzu-poodle mix is leaving his mark in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

Owner Karen Pollack helps her dog, Jackson Pollack, create colorful pawprint canvases. She says the pup's artwork does somewhat resemble the abstract expressionism of his namesake Jackson Pollock.

"We put the paint on his paws and I direct him on the canvas. Then we change colors and I do it again," Karen explained.

Right now several of Jackson's pieces are on display and up for sale at Springhouse Senior Living in Jamaica Plain. You can view or purchase the work on the senior living community's website, and all of the proceeds are going to their Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraiser.

Along with coaching her little artiste, Karen is director of community relations for Springhouse.

"I'm really hoping it takes off and he can make a real difference," she said. "We need to make a big impact on Alzheimer's and find a cure."
