LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An after-school program in Lynn is helping kids with their grades by offering tutoring, helping cultivate discipline through boxing, and pride in their community through enrichment programs.

The Amateur Educational Boxing Program with Private Jewels Boxing Inc. is about helping kids navigate the challenges they face in their lives.

"It's a way to keep us busy and keep us productive. You want to invest your time in things that will give back to you and this is one of those ways," student Anderson Blanco told WBZ NewsRadio's Brooke McCarthy.

Blanco has been a student at Private Jewels Boxing for the last two years and credits the program with the success he's achieved today both in and out of the classroom.

"I'm definitely a straight A student and it if wasn't for this program I wouldn't standing on that foot," Blanco said.

Students must retain a solid 2.8 GPA in order to participate.
