WINTHROP (WBZNewsRadio) - If you're looking to buy a piece of history, you might want to look at an old house for sale in Winthrop.
The now run-down home on Cottage Street once belonged to Edward Rowe Snow, author of some 97 books. Snow was a prolific producer of maritime history and lore. He graduated from Harvard University and earned a master’s degree in history from Boston University.
"Pirate stories, lighthouses, tales of high seas..." Winthrop resident Michael Kinlin said. "The histories that he wrote, many of them were written here and I think it would be absolutely fantastic and yanno, just really help to retain some of the historical aspects of Winthrop that a lot of people feel are being lost."
Kinlin said his father used to live next door to the Snow home and when he learned the house was sale, he posted about it's history on Facebook, in the hopes that somebody would see it and buy the house, not to knock it down, but to renovate it, and preserve the memory of the one of the town's more famous former residents.
