SOMERVILLE (WBZNewsRadio) - After a long pandemic hiatus, free samples inside Trader Joe's are back and tastier than ever. The grocery chain brought back the in-store free samples this past weekend and there is mixed reaction from customers.

"I'm so happy to hear the samples are back!" One woman told WBZ's Madison Rogers.

"It might be too soon, I mean we love samples but, flu season now." Another said.

Along with the freebies, food demos will also return to some stores, but the company says they won't launch them nationwide and hot coffee will remain off the table.

The food samples were removed in 2019 when the pandemic lockdowns occurred. Many stores were slow to bring back the perk. Costco was one of the first to return free samples to customers in 2021, but added plexiglass stations. Sam's Club also brought back it's Taste & Tips demo program last year, at first only on the weekends and in limited quantities with sealed samples.

Whole foods also brought back samples, but only in cities and states without mask mandates.
