FALL RIVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two people are dead and two others are wounded after a domestic violence-related shooting in Fall River Wednesday morning.
Bristol County D.A. Thomas Quinn said Fall River Police were called to a house on Bank Street at 3:05 AM. They found four shooting victims on scene, two men and two women.
On further investigation, the shooter was identified as 25-year-old Christopher Jean Baptiste.
Victims told police that the family of Baptiste's fiancé had been living in his house for the past few months, while they looked for a place to live. They say Baptiste was unhappy with the arrangement, and told his on fiancé Tuesday night. Then, early Wednesday morning, the situation boiled over: the family said Baptiste pulled a gun on his fiancé, and demanded that the family leave immediately.
Witnesses said her father, 69-year-old Hubert Labasquin, began to struggle with Baptiste over the gun and was shot. Labasquin later died at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police say as the family called 911, Baptiste shot the fiancé's sister and mother, before turning the gun on himself. Both the sister and mother were rushed to the hospital, but are expected to survive.
Police say Baptiste had a license for the gun.
